See Buchanan Galleries transformed with new site-specific artworks that turn the iconic shopping hub into a playground for moving-image artworks, musical pieces and artistic interventions. In a former shopfront you might encounter the story of a nineteenth-century inventor whose AI creations exceed his wildest dreams, use your signature to control and transform the sound from a loudhailer, or put on an eyemask and lie back on a vibrating canvas to hear transmissions from another reality. And as you explore the galleries, watch out for the team of friendly little robot loudhailers who’ll trundle around with you, very keen to hear what you have to tell them.
The way we shop has transformed radically over the 27 years since Buchanan Galleries launched. With these playful, thought-provoking interactive interventions, Sonica Glasgow demonstrates how a shopping centre can become not just a commercial focus for the city but a social and artistic one too.

We are keen to encourage active travel to our festival and have provided information for all our venues. You may also wish to take advantage of the electric bicycle scheme, Voi, which operates on a pay as you go, prepaid or subscription basis. There are pick up and drop off points throughout the city.
- On foot: From Central Station (Gordon Street):
This is a 15 min walk (0.5 miles) via Hope Street Street, Union Street and Buchanan Street
From Queen Street (Dundas Place)
This is a 2 min walk ( 0.1 miles)via Dundas Lane and Buchanan Street.
The route is mostly flat with a slight incline to Buchanan Street. - By bus: From Central Station (Argyle Street):
3, 4 and 9 and 9A to West Regent Street Bus stop (2 stops). This is a 6 min walk (0.3 miles).
The route is flat. - By subway: The nearest underground station is Buchanan Street. The ticket concourse is located one level below street level. Escalators, stairs, a sloped moving walkway and ramped access provide access. Escalators and four flights of stairs provide access to the ticket concourse from the northern Buchanan Galleries entrance. The upper three flights for stairs are made up of 12 steps and the lower flight has 14 steps. There is a small landing between each of the flights.There are two flights of stairs leading down to both the Inner and Outer platforms, with a landing between each flight. The uppermost flight has 13 steps and the lower most flight of stairs has 16 steps. This is the same on access to both platforms. A double left turn is needed at each landing to reach the next flight.All stairs have double height handrails which are non-reflective and not “cold to touch.” The route from the subway via Buchanan Street has a slight slope.
- By car: You can enter the car park from either Killermont Street or Cathedral Street. This is a cashless car park. Blue Badge holders can park for free and any length of time. There is a drop off and pick up point from the car park.
