Developed 50 years ago, the Serge Modular synthesiser was a game-changing musical device which allowed the user total sonic freedom. Today, the few remaining Serge Modulars are held in musical archives around the world – archives to which Thomas Ankersmit was given access to compose his homage to the instrument’s designer, Serge Tcherepnin. In this live performance, Ankersmit improvises live against the material he recorded in the archives, as he demonstrates the Serge’s incredible range and shows that we’ve barely scratched the surface of what this “vintage” technology is capable of.
