A Cryptic Commission
Tom Scholefield of Konx-om-Pax has synaesthesia – the rare sensory condition that allows a person to ‘see’ sound. Inspired by Oskar Fishinger, Wassily Kandinsky and other early 20th-century artists who investigated how sound could be represented in visual form, Konx-om-Pax stages his own experiment in Pollok House: a shifting environment of colour, light and sound that responds to visitors’ presence, as well as to their use of digital tools that shape what they see and hear. Colour Sound is a unique opportunity to see the way another mind hears.
Colour Sound was developed during Cryptic’s Cove Park Residency 2026.
